After two years of assessments, we were ‘made up’ when Jacob was finally approved by the Kent Childrens CAT (Communications Assistive Technology) team. Over the course of two years, he had to prove he had the ability to recognise symbols and catergorise items – one of the tasks was to recognise that a cow is an animal, but a farm animal, rather than a pet.
He has since made great progress and after 10 months is starting to hold mini conversations!
Our hope is that the technology will allow Jacob a level of independence that would have been difficult to imagine a few years ago. But this link was sent to us by the computers manufacturer in the U.S.A. to demonstrate what is really possible – it is, shall we say, an eye opener…
